
Dr. Scott Spurgeon

Dr. Scott D. Spurgeon serves as Superintendent of Western Maricopa Education Center #402 (West-MEC), a public school district known as a Career and Technical Education District (CTED). West-MEC currently serves 15 public school district communities, primarily in the north-central and western portions of Maricopa County.
Spurgeon has more than 30 years of experience in the education sector and currently serves on the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) Executive Governing Board. In his previous role as Superintendent for Riverview Gardens School District in St. Louis, MO., Spurgeon oversaw all district operations and led initiatives to connect students to technical and certificate career opportunities.
Spurgeon holds a Doctor of Education from Saint Louis University, a Master of Educational Administration from Northeastern State University, and an Education Specialist degree from Oklahoma State University. Spurgeon also had a career in the National Baseball League as a professional player on the Houston Astros as a catcher, first baseman, and designated hitter.
